Navigation Aids
What navigation aids you will vary on the boat’s type and size and how distant from land you’ll go. If you are in the smallest boats, then you will be needing a chart. However, if you will go for more than 1-2 miles, you will needing a GPS, depth sounder, and compass. You should go to the Maritime Safety Authority or Coastguard for an advice about it.
Communication Equipment
The communication equipment includes the VHF radio, cell phone, emergency locator, and flares. If you are going on any trip, you need to have at least two means of this. However, if you are going more than two miles then you must have three means. It is very important to have at least one means of communication to ensure that you can ask someone help if there is accidents or mishaps.
Anchor
Of course, this one is one of the must-haves. Your anchor should be the exact size for the boat. In order to determine that, the anchor must weigh not fewer than 1.5 kilograms per boat length’s meter. The chain has to be no less than the boat’s length. Furthermore, a rope that’s non-floating must be well-secured to the boat
First Aid Kit
You will have to carry this in your boating. It should contain supplies for the minor injury and accidents. It should also have a remedy for seasickness and sunblock
Fire Extinguishers
You must carry one of this especially if you brought with you a cooker or an engine on board. The fire extinguisher should be appropriate for your kind of boating.
Bailing System
You must always carry a bailer or bucket even though you already carry your electric bilge pump. The reason is it can be useful in putting out fires and it has other many uses.
Life Jackets
You must carry at least one of the right sizes for each of your companions always. It is a mandatory especially all the time of increased risk.
Alternative Power
It is important to have paddles, oars or outboards in order to help you maneuver if the winds die away while you are sailing or a power failure.
